Join the Coding Movement December 4th-8th! The Career & Technical Education Dept. invites all teachers, students, and staff to set aside 1 hour to participate in National Computer Science Week and 'Hour of Code™.' This nationwide initiative introduces K-12 students to computer science and coding. In addition, you and your students can participate in interactive coding lessons, hands-on activities, and our District-wide coding competition.
Bring computer science to your school. Start with an 'Hour of Code™'!
With technology changing every industry on the planet, computing knowledge has become part of a well-rounded skill set. Worldwide, fewer than half of all schools teach computer science! Currently over 8,000 students are enrolled in Career & Technical Education courses which include coding in the curriculum. If you heard about the Hour of Code last year, you might know it made history. One hundred million students have now discovered how accessible and fun computer science can be by doing Hour of Code.
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Learn more by participating in this district event, try an hour yourself, or host an Hour of Code event to introduce others to the world of computing!
Teachers, please follow these steps to get started:
1.) Preview our three levels of coding activities in the following Google Classrooms and have students join the Google Classrooms (based on their skill/experience):
- Elementary School: vg3qgn5

2.) Designate 1 hour during the week of December 4th to introduce students to computer science and participate in 'Hour of Code™'. Students join the Google classroom (using class codes above) and complete the coding activities provided.
