Action Meeting - May 23, 2024

Recognitions

The Board recognized:

  • Chua Khanh Nguyen from East Lee County High School, Limingjing Nong from Island Coast High School and Davisha Brown from Young Parent Education Program for being awarded the inaugural Florida Prepaid Superintendent Scholarship worth $8,000 each.
  • The JROTC departments at Estero, Fort Myers, Gateway, and Riverdale High Schools for successfully completing the JROTC Program Accreditation with scores ranging from 95% to 100% and earning them the prestigious Honor Unit with Distinction designation.
  • Fort Myers High School junior Nick Bloomston for winning the FHSAA District 2A 129 lb weightlifting state championship in the Traditional category and Fort Myers High School senior Jacob Paquin for setting a new FHSAA all-class state record in the Bench Press at 365 pounds.

Consent Action Items

The School Board approved:

  • The adoption of the 2024-2025 Code of Conduct for students (PK to 12th Grade) and the adoption of the 2024-2025 Code of Conduct for adult students.
  • Funding for the computer science teacher bonus grant which pays for bonuses to qualifying computer science teachers who complete teaching an identified course in the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Amendment 2 for the 23/24 Title II, Part A Grant to enhance professional learning opportunities to increase student achievement, improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers and leaders, increase the number of teachers and leaders who are effective in improving student achievement, and provide students greater access to effective teachers and leaders.
  • The Annual Agreement with the Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy, Inc. to continue the 46-year partnership providing student’s classes for electricians, plumbers, Fire Sprinkler, HVAC installers and pipe fitters to earn credentials and the title of “journeyman.”
  • Agreements with Cypress Cove at Health Park and Christian Missionary Alliance Foundation to provide adequate facilities for the clinical preparation of Nursing Assisting and Practical Nursing students.
  • Funding to provide food and non-food products to all District schools, plus refrigerated and frozen food storage and delivery when necessary, for cafeteria prepared meals and snacks for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Phase 1 Project Pre-Construction budget estimate for the Bayshore K-8 school expansion to cover Pre-Construction service fees for Architectural, Civil Engineer, and Construction Services, Owner Contingency, Inspections, Legal Fees, Permits, Advertising, Surveys and Assessments and Utilities.
  • Phase 1 Pre-Construction budget estimate for the Bonita Springs Elementary School demolition/rebuild/renovation/remodel to cover Pre-Construction service fees for Architectural, Civil Engineer, and Construction Services, Owner Contingency, Inspections, Legal Fees, Permits, Advertising, Surveys and Assessments and Utilities.
  • A contract with South Gulf Football Officials Association for officiating services at high school football games through July 1, 2025.
